About CEDARE
The Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) is an intergovernmental not-for-profit organization established in 1992 under the Damascus charter adopted by the 3rd Arab Ministerial Meeting on Environment Affairs 1991. CEDARE addresses regional environmental challenges by promoting sustainable development and resource management.
As a hub for regional and international cooperation, CEDARE fosters strategic partnerships between the Arab region and Europe, facilitating knowledge exchange, policy development, and technical cooperation. These partnerships drive the implementation of joint programs that promote sustainability and environmental resilience.
Headquartered in Cairo, Egypt, CEDARE is currently working on reactivating its regional office in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its Euro-Mediterranean office in Malta, aiming to expand its outreach and impact.
CEDARE is governed by a 15-member Board of Trustees (BoT), which includes environment ministers, as well as representatives from regional and international organizations and academia. Saudi Arabia serves as Chair, while Egypt, the host country, holds the Vice-Chair position. With the support of more than 140 funding partners, CEDARE continues to lead regional sustainability and environmental efforts.
Through its multidisciplinary network of experts, CEDARE advances programs and initiatives across the Arab region, Europe, and Africa. CEDARE’s activities focus on digital transformation, climate resilience, water and land management, circular economy, green finance, and environmental governance.
