Dr. Amr Abdel Megeed

International Expert – Director of Environmental Governance and Water Resources Programmes

Dr. Amr AbdelMeguid has over 35 years of extensive experience in environmental governance and sustainable development across the MENA region. He holds a Ph.D. from Cairo University and a Master’s degree from Colorado State University, specializing in environmental hydrogeology. As the Manager of the Environmental Governance Programme at CEDARE, Dr. AbdelMeguid has successfully led multiple high-impact projects, including innovative solutions for climate resilience and sustainable agricultural practices, and streamlining gender into development practices. His leadership in initiatives such as the Al-Murunah project, and the Sustainable Investment in Solid and Agricultural Wastes project has garnered recognition for integrating nature-based solutions and enhancing community livelihoods. Dr. AbdelMeguid’s oversight of the “Healthy Ecosystems for Rangelands Development (HERD)” initiative has been instrumental in promoting biodiversity restoration and bolstering ecosystem resilience.  He plays a key role in policy influencing, leveraging his expertise to shape and inform policy decisions that promote environmental resilience and combating desertification. A member of various international task forces, he is committed to fostering collaboration among stakeholders to address pressing environmental challenges.
