by CEDARE Team

As part of its ongoing efforts to advance sustainable environmental policies, CEDARE, in collaboration with the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), organized a policy dialogue workshop on mainstreaming Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) into national policies. The workshop was funded by the UK Government through the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).

The event was inaugurated by Mr. Sam Grout-Smith, Deputy Director for Middle East Affairs at FCDO, who emphasized the importance of unified efforts to accelerate the integration of NbS into national strategies.

Dr. Stephen Fragaszy, Regional Director of the NbS Resilience Programme, presented methodologies for implementing NbS, opportunities for scaling up, and the need for innovative financing mechanisms.

Dr. Amr Abdelmagid, Director of the Environmental Governance Program at CEDARE, presented the “Resilience” project as a practical model that could be aligned with climate policies, adaptation plans, NDCs, and water and agriculture strategies.

The workshop also featured a dynamic policy dialogue led by Dr. Abdelmagid, with participation from the Ministries of Water Resources and Irrigation, Agriculture, Environment, and the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood.

The event concluded with a session on financing mechanisms, attended by institutions including the FCDO Middle East Programme and the Commercial International Bank (CIB), where discussions focused on innovative tools such as carbon credit and commercial finance.
