As part of its commitment to supporting scientific dialogue on climate and sustainability issues, Cedare’s Executive Director, Dr. Khaled Fahmy, was invited as a key note speaker on February 4, 2025, to share his knowledge and insights on “Environmental Challenges and Climate Change Issues.”
The event was held as part of the 56th Cairo International Book Fair.
During the seminar, Dr. Khaled Fahmy, Director of CEDARE and former Minister of Environment (Egypt), provided a comprehensive analysis of the current environmental landscape. He highlighted the interplay between political and economic systems and global environmental strategies, emphasizing that global warming is no longer just an environmental issue but a central concern affecting the global economy, geopolitical stability, and social structures.
Dr.Fahmy also discussed the challenges of transitioning from fossil fuels to clean energy sources, pointing out the difficulties faced by developing countries in financing this shift. He noted the disparity in economic priorities and the failure of industrialized nations to fulfill their financial and technological commitments to facilitate environmental technology transfer.
The seminar featured a distinguished group of experts in the fields of environment and energy, including:
• Dr. Mohamed Mostafa El-Khayat, Chairman of the New and Renewable Energy Authority
• Dr. Mohamed Ziadeh, Chairman of Certin Consulting Group
• A team of experts from CEDARE The session was moderated by journalist Aya Abdel Rahman.
During the seminar, Ambassador Hisham Badr, Assistant Minister of Planning (Ministry of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation) for Strategic Partnerships, Excellence, and Initiatives, presented the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects, which has successfully completed its third cycle.
In conclusion, Dr. Fahmy stressed the need to enhance international cooperation, activate mechanisms for fair climate financing, invest in sustainable technologies, and promote energy efficiency as key pillars for addressing current environmental challenges.
