International Day of Zero Waste 2025: CEDARE Showcases Mediterranean Textile Circularity Initiative

by CEDARE Team

March 30, 2025, marks the International Day of Zero Waste, an annual observance established by the United Nations General Assembly to promote sustainable consumption and production patterns and to raise awareness about zero-waste initiatives worldwide.

This year’s theme, “Towards Zero Waste in Fashion and Textiles,” highlights the urgent need to address waste within the fashion and textile industry and to promote sustainability and circularity.

H.E. Dr. Khaled Fahmy, Executive Director, CEDARE noted that “Zero waste in fashion and textiles” is an area which Centre for Environment & Development for the Arab Region & Europe (CEDARE) is addressing, through a top-ranked European Commission funded project, “Developing a Pilot Circular System for Post-Consumer Textile Waste in the Mediterranean”. The project is expected to have a significant regional impact by tackling shared challenges in Egypt, Italy, Lebanon, Spain and Tunisia, to develop scalable circular economy models.
