On Sunday, August 3, 2025, CEDARE – Centre for Environment & Development for the Arab Region & Europe hosted its monthly Salon at the Center’s headquarters, where Dr. Ahmed Abdelkader delivered an insightful presentation on international efforts to tackle plastic pollution from the perspective of sustainability and circular economy practices.

The future of international agreements and European legislation on plastic pollution
The need to reduce virgin plastic production and its negative impact on the global economy
Challenges related to chemicals throughout the plastic lifecycle
The importance of considering national contexts and integrating environmental and social dimensions to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Discussions explored the role of the Arab region in advancing balanced and effective international agreements aimed at reducing plastic pollution.
Participants exchanged views on the opportunities and challenges of international cooperation and the ways in which the Arab region can contribute to global solutions.
The discussions also shed light on how Egypt can play an active role in shaping regional positions and supporting ambitious and actionable outcomes that align with national and regional priorities.
