by CEDARE Team

Within the framework of strengthening partnerships with civil society and institutions concerned with sustainable development, CEDARE participated in a roundtable organised by the Misr El-Kheir Foundation on “The Role of NGOs and Cooperatives in Supporting Climate-Smart Agriculture,” aimed at achieving climate justice.

As part of the activities of the project “Enhancing the Role of NGOs in Sustainable Development and Climate Action,” the event brought together representatives from government entities, civil society organisations, agricultural cooperatives, research centres and universities, smallholder farmers, the private sector, and international organisations.

The roundtable dialogue explored performance gaps between civil society organisations and cooperatives in agricultural extension services, the integration of agricultural technologies, the improvement of crop value chains, and ensuring farmers’ access to finance, with a focus on practical solutions for climate-smart agriculture.

Participants also presented and discussed the current situation of agricultural cooperatives, the legislative challenges they face, and the role of the state in supporting financing mechanisms without administrative interference.

The roundtable concluded with an agreement on the importance of enhancing coordination among the state, civil society, cooperatives, research centres, and the private sector to ensure the effective adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices and to translate recommendations into practical programmes that boost agricultural productivity and improve farmers’ quality of life.
