CEDARE – Centre for Environment & Development for the Arab Region & Europe held a high-level meeting with partners from Germany and Egypt, including the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), as well as representatives from academia and climate finance experts. The meeting focused on exploring how debt swaps can help accelerate Egypt’s transition to clean and renewable energy.
The committee outlined several key policy recommendations, including strengthening technology transfer, expanding private-sector participation, and localizing green hydrogen production. It also highlighted the development of the “Egypt–Germany Energy Transition for Debt Swap Guide”, which is intended to serve as a reference framework for future cooperation between the two countries.
