As part of strengthening national cooperation to advance environmental sustainability and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), H.E. Dr. Khaled Fahmy, Executive Director of the Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE), and Prof. Dr. Hossam Ahmed Shawky, President of the Desert Research Center (DRC), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance collaboration between the two institutions across several areas of mutual interest.
The MoU aims to expand cooperation in sustainable land management, soil restoration, combating desertification and mitigating the impacts of drought, reducing the risks associated with sand and dust storms, conducting joint research and studies, building capacities, exchanging knowledge and expertise, and developing and implementing joint environmental and development initiatives and projects.
This partnership reflects the commitment of both institutions to joining scientific and institutional efforts to address environmental challenges and promote innovative solutions that contribute to sustainable development at both the national and regional levels.
On the sidelines of the MoU signing ceremony, the CEDARE delegation visited the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing Unit, followed by a tour of several research laboratories at the Desert Research Center to learn about the Center’s advanced research capabilities and technologies that support sustainable development efforts.
