Centre for Environment & Development for the Arab Region & Europe (CEDARE) participated in the 24th Meeting of the Arab Team on the United Nations Conventions to Combat Desertification and Biological Diversity, held at the Headquarters of the League of Arab States in Cairo, with the participation of representatives from Arab countries and relevant regional and international organisations.
CEDARE was presented by Dr. Omar El Badawy, Environmental Expert, and Mrs Nardeen Ishaq, Smart Villages Project Manager, who participated in the technical discussions on regional priorities related to combating desertification and biodiversity conservation
The meeting aims to facilitate the exchange of expertise, strengthen Arab coordination, and develop a unified Arab negotiating position ahead of the Seventeenth Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP17), scheduled to take place in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, in August.
Discussions focused on a number of priority issues, including drought, land restoration, land degradation neutrality, financing, technology transfer, capacity building, and strengthening Arab coordination, with the objective of advancing common regional priorities during the forthcoming negotiations.
CEDARE’s participation reflects its continued commitment to supporting joint Arab action and providing technical expertise to promote sound environmental policies, strengthen efforts to combat desertification, restore ecosystems, and advance sustainable development across the Arab region.
