From 2 to 6 June 2025, CEDARE participated in the Global Environment Outlook (GEO-7) Summary for Policymakers Drafting and MESAG Validation Opinion Meeting, held at Halla University, Jeju, South Korea.
CEDARE was represented in person by Ms. Mayar Sabet, Senior Specialist at the Knowledge Management Programme, while Dr. Ahmed Abdelrehim, Deputy Executive Director and Co-Lead Review Editor for GEO-7, participated virtually, contributing to the expert discussions and peer review process.
The meeting focused on supporting the Multidisciplinary Expert Scientific Advisory Group (MESAG) in finalizing its validation opinion on the scientific credibility of the GEO-7 report, including deliberations on key review findings and supporting evidence.
The event brought together leading international experts to ensure the scientific integrity of the report. Ms. Sabet also participated in World Environment Day celebrations hosted by the Korea Environment Institute (KEI), underscoring CEDARE’s ongoing commitment to global environmental collaboration and science-based policymaking.
GEO-7 is one of the flagship environmental assessments of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). It provides a comprehensive evaluation of the global environment, addressing climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, and equitable pathways to sustainable development.
The “Summary for Policymakers” serves as a vital tool, translating the report’s findings into actionable, evidence-based recommendations for decision-makers worldwide.
