Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) has successfully concluded a training program held from 29 July to 3 August 2026. The program was implemented under the project “Enhancing Economic Independence and Community Empowerment through Climate-Smart Agriculture and Technological Innovation (Smart Villages).” It aimed to strengthen farmers’ capacities and promote the adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices, contributing to improved agricultural productivity, more efficient use of natural resources, and enhanced resilience of rural communities to climate change.
The training program focused on equipping participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to implement climate-smart agriculture principles. It covered best practices in sustainable soil and water management, techniques for improving irrigation efficiency and optimizing water use, and sustainable farming practices that enhance productivity. In addition, the program addressed integrated pest management, proper agricultural waste management and recycling, and approaches to strengthening climate change adaptation while promoting more resilient and sustainable agricultural systems.
The program adopted a comprehensive training approach that combined both theoretical and practical components. Participants had the opportunity to apply the concepts they learned through hands-on activities, exchange experiences, and explore practical solutions that can be implemented to improve agricultural practices and enhance the sustainable management of natural resources.
The project aims to strengthen rural communities by promoting sustainable agricultural development and advancing the adoption of climate-smart agriculture practices. Through capacity building, technological innovation, and community engagement, the initiative contributes to enhancing climate resilience, improving agricultural productivity, and supporting national efforts to address climate change while advancing food security.
The Smart Villages project is funded by the Drosos Foundation and implemented by the Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, the Agricultural Extension Research Institute, and the Yamm Association for Community Development in Sol Village, Atfih District, Giza Governorate.
