by CEDARE Team

The Cedare – Centre for Environment & Development for the Arab Region & Europe (www.cedare.int) and the SIWI – Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) (www.siwi.org) have officially signed a cooperation agreement to enhance water sustainability efforts in Egypt.

This partnership aims to strengthen water governance and promote youth engagement, through the Stockholm Junior Water Prize (SJWP).

Under the agreement, Cedare will organize Egypt’s national Stockholm Junior Water Prize competition, identifying and supporting young innovators working on water-related solutions. The Stockholm International Water Institute will provide financial and technical support, ensuring Egypt’s participation in the Stockholm Junior Water Prize (SJWP) international final, held during World Water Week in Stockholm (www.worldwaterweek.org).

Dr. Khaled AbuZeid, Director of Water Resources Management Programme, Cedare stated “We are extremely pleased to collaborate with SIWI to empower the next generation of water leaders. This initiative aligns with our mission to foster sustainable water management in Egypt and beyond.”

Caroline Andersson, representing SIWI, emphasized: “By bringing Egypt into the SJWP, we are investing in youth-driven solutions to address global water challenges.”

The agreement will be in effect from 2025 to 2027, with the first national competition scheduled for June 2025.
