CEDARE at the IUCN World Conservation Congress 2025: Advancing Nature-Based Solutions and Ecosystem Integration for a Sustainable Future

The Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) will take part in the IUCN World Conservation Congress, to be held from October 9 to 15, 2025, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC).

Held every four years, this major global event brings together thousands of policymakers, experts, scientists, and civil society representatives to exchange knowledge and solutions addressing the planetโ€™s most pressing environmental challenges.

As part of this global platform, CEDARE will actively contribute to three key thematic sessions, organized in collaboration with regional and international partners:

From Local Knowledge to Global Goals: Elevating Rangelands and Pastoralists in the Arab Region

Organized by: IUCN West Asia Region and CEDARE

Why attend:
This session explores innovative and participatory approaches to rangeland management in the Arab region. Participants will gain insights into best practices that strengthen arid ecosystem resilience, promote sustainable livestock systems, and enhance climate adaptation. It offers valuable opportunities to connect with experts, share replicable strategies, and support regional rangeland sustainability.

Session Description:
Rangelandsโ€”ecosystems dominated by grasses, shrubs, and sparse treesโ€”cover up to 70โ€“80% of land area in Arab countries and are vital for both ecological balance and rural livelihoods. This session will highlight community-driven, sustainable management models for these drylands and showcase lessons learned from across the Arab region to advance biodiversity conservation, resource efficiency, and inclusive environmental governance.

Through its participation, CEDARE reaffirms its long-standing commitment to promoting biodiversity conservation, sustainable land and water management, and nature-based solutions across Africa and the Arab region.

By engaging in global dialogues such as the IUCN Congress, CEDARE continues to strengthen regional partnerships, share expertise, and drive a greener, more resilient future for all.
