CEDARE and Jordan’s Ministry of Environment Discuss Strengthening Arab Environmental Cooperation at IUCN Congress

As part of its efforts to strengthen regional cooperation on environmental issues, Dr. Khaled Fahmy, Executive Director of the CEDARE – Centre for Environment & Development for the Arab Region & Europe and Former Egyptian Minister of Environment, held a meeting with H.E. Dr. Ayman Suleiman, Minister of Environment of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan وزارة البيئة الأردنية – Ministry of Environment on the second day of the IUCN World Conservation Congress, Friday, 10 October 2025.

The discussions focused on enhancing Arab cooperation in environmental governance, sustainable development, and addressing climate change challenges, while emphasizing the importance of joint Arab efforts and expanding technical cooperation to mobilize funding for regional environmental projects, including strengthening partnerships with the private sector.

Both sides also stressed the need to develop sustainable financing mechanisms to support environmental initiatives and projects across the Arab region.

Dr. Fahmy reaffirmed CEDARE’s readiness to provide technical support and share expertise in capacity building and knowledge exchange, contributing to strengthening Arab cooperation and achieving a more sustainable environment in the region
