Centre for Environment & Development for the Arab Region & Europe (CEDARE) participated on Wednesday, 22 April in the Collective Impact Day organised by the Drosos Foundation at the Cultural Centre of AUC The American University in Cairo in Tahrir, under the theme “Empowering Youth Across Egypt”. The event brought together a number of development partners and representatives of institutions working in social and economic development.

The event aimed to strengthen knowledge exchange among

partners and stakeholders, showcase key achievements in development projects, and highlight initiatives contributing to sustainable social impact and economic empowerment for local communities.

During the event, CEDARE presented the “Al-Murunah” Project, implemented in cooperation with International Water Management Institute (IWMI) in Abu El‑Matamir, Beheira Governorate, as a successful model for enhancing community cohesion and economic empowerment for rural families and women.

The project provided training for around 500 families and young people on participatory household management, promoting dialogue between men and women, and developing skills in household financial management and small enterprise development. It also supported 136 families through income-generating activities and established three artichoke processing units managed by 30 women. In addition, the project facilitated the establishment of a Water Users Association, introduced solar-powered irrigation systems, and implemented demonstration plots and farmer field schools to improve soil quality and agricultural productivity. These efforts have contributed to strengthening water and food security while increasing household incomes.

CEDARE is also currently implementing, in partnership with the Drosos Foundation, the “Economic Independence through Climate-Smart Agriculture” project in Atfih, Giza Governorate, as a model for sustainable smart villages. The initiative is implemented with the participation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation and aims to enhance economic empowerment in rural communities, support climate adaptation, and promote sustainable agricultural development.
