October 11, 2025, On the sidelines of the IUCN World Conservation Congress – Abu Dhabi
Dr. Khaled Fahmy, Executive Director of the Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) and former Minister of Environment of the Arab Republic of Egypt, held a meeting with H.E. Hana Saif Abdullah Al Suwaidi, Chairperson of the Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA) in Sharjah, Chair of the Scientific Committee of the Sharjah International Conservation Forum for Arabia’s Biodiversity, and Vice Chairperson of the Higher Organizing Committee of the Sir Bu Nair Environmental Festival.
The meeting, held on the sidelines of the IUCN World Conservation Congress in Abu Dhabi, discussed potential areas of collaboration between CEDARE and EPAA in biodiversity conservation, sustainable management of protected areas, capacity building, and exchange of scientific and technical expertise at both the national and regional levels.
Both sides also explored opportunities to develop joint research programs and training initiatives aimed at advancing environmental sustainability in the Arab region and contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Post-2030 Global Biodiversity Framework.
The two parties emphasized the importance of strengthening regional cooperation and enhancing institutional and scientific collaboration among Arab environmental entities to promote effective management of protected areas and conservation of sensitive ecosystems across the region.
