Laser leveling made a big difference it clearly improved productivity and helped save irrigation water

by CEDARE Team

These are the words of farmer Ibrahim Mahmoud Abdallah Ibrahim, sharing his experience with laser land leveling as part of the activities of Al Murunah Project, funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and implemented in Egypt in collaboration between the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), and CEDARE – Centre for Environment & Development for the Arab Region & Europe.

Before leveling, uneven land caused water to accumulate in some areas while other parts remained dry leading to seed rot or failure to germinate.

After laser leveling, irrigation became faster and more efficient, saving water, diesel, and reducing equipment breakdowns.

Through agricultural associations, the Al Murunah Project provided laser leveling services, making this technology accessible to smallholder farmers at a lower cost.

Ibrahim’s story is one of many inspiring success stories, showcasing how technical solutions can improve resource efficiency and support sustainable agriculture.

Stay tuned for more success stories from the Al Murunah Projecthighlighting how the integration of infrastructure and community innovation can help confront the impacts of climate change.
