CEDARE Concludes the Sixth Webinar under the EU-Funded CIROCCO Project

CEDARE concluded the sixth webinar as part of the implementation of the Cirocco EU Project activities in Egypt. The webinar was held under the title: “Solar Energy Planning and Management in Practice.”

The session focused on transforming environmental challenges in desert regions into smart opportunities through advanced monitoring and analytical techniques.

The webinar addressed several key themes, including:

  • Presenting the role of the CIROCCO Project in strengthening environmental monitoring in desert areas that currently suffer from limited data coverage.
  • Discussing the unique challenges facing solar power plants in Egypt, such as dust, high temperatures, and variable weather conditions, and how these can be addressed to improve panel efficiency.
  • Explaining the integration of in-situ sensors, remote sensing technologies, and advanced modelling to provide early warning systems and support informed decision-making.
  • Highlighting the social and economic benefits of improving planning capacities for solar energy infrastructure.

The webinar brought together a distinguished group of international and local experts, including:

  • Dr Omar El Badawy – CEDARE, Egypt
  • Panagiotis Kosmopoulos – National Observatory of Athens, Greece
  • Dr Hesham Askary – Professor of Remote Sensing and Space Sciences

The session witnessed strong engagement from participants, fostering knowledge exchange and constructive dialogue on advancing the sustainable energy transition.
